The
Land of the Free
But are we still the home of the brave?
Everyone knows the story of our national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner. The lyrics come from "Defense of Fort McHenry", a poem written in 1814 by the 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet Francis Scott Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships of the Royal Navy in the Chesapeake Bay during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812.
There are actually 4 verses to the song but most are familiar with the first:
O say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Here is where we start: O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
No one can doubt the courage of the Americans on that day. In fact no one can doubt the courage of the Armed Forces of the United States from the day we were founded. No fighting force in the history of the world has shed as much blood for freedom and their fellow man as the America fighting man.
To this day, they continue to show the strength and courage that was forged in the fire of battle at the founding of this Nation.
That is why this country is still semi free. But are we still the home of the brave?
Bravery is courageous behavior or character, valor, nerve, daring, audacity, boldness, stoutheartedness and heroism. And it does not and should not be only associated with our military.
Today we need brave men and women more than ever in this country’s history. We need people who will stand up and call out the people who are trying to change our nation into a land that is no longer free.
We need to stand up and say, homosexuality is wrong and immoral. But if you wish that to be your path, fine just don’t try to make us like it and don’t try to enlist us in your agenda.
We need to stand up and say, keep your hands off our schools, what our children eat or what they are taught. We know better than you what their needs are.
We need to say, no you cannot spy on us, intercept our mail, listen to our phone calls and violate our right of privacy.
We need to say, yes we are Christians and we believe in God and Jesus Christ and if you don’t like it too bad.
We need to say loudly, keep your hands off our guns, our free speech and all the rest of our rights. God gave us those not you.
We need to say, no you cannot sneak into this country and then demand we feed, clothe you, pay you money for nothing and educate your children. Illegal alien means just that—you’re illegal. And don’t even think about voting.
We need to stand up and say, no you are not African American, Mexican American or any other pre amble to American. You are AMERICAN. Period.
We need to fight political correctness until it is dead or it will kill us. And we need to say no to the EPA, the IRS, The Department of Education, Judicial tyranny, and political cronyism.
And we absolutely must show the government that we are not afraid of them. When the people are afraid of their own government that is tyranny.
We need to fight back when someone calls us bigots, homophobes, islamaphobes or whatever they use to try to demonize and embarrass us into accepting their agendas. Wrong is wrong and we must call them on it.
And finally we need to shout from the rooftops that there is something very wrong with the so called “religion” of Islam and it has no place in America.
We need to know what our enemy has always understood, that our greatest weakness seems to be our lack of will to acknowledge evil. We need to prove to this enemy, to this administration, and to ourselves, that America is awake.
We must send a message that we are not only the land of the free, but the home of the brave. And we need to show them that we will live our lives with honor and power, and will not be influenced by terror and fear because this time---we will come armed.
